Research notes

[3 Aug 2026, SRC-212] A 1971 consolidation of the REMAINDER OF RHEMHOOGTE and the REMAINDER OF PORTION 1 - so this single parcel is most of the original farm reassembled, ninety-two years after J and J A Oosthuysen were granted it. Portions 6, 7 and later 8 were then cut out of it (see PAR-000142). Its own components carry the grant diagram 876/1875 and Grondbrief P.A.Q. 2-20.

[13 Aug 2026, SRC-436] NAMED FROM THE 2023 VALUATION ROLL, which gives this portion as "Swartskraal" (5657.8720 ha). This row previously read "Rhemhoogte Portion 5 (No. 125 Ptn 5)", which was a farm-and-portion label rather than a name. The roll is a rates document and good evidence for what the ground is called now; it says nothing about what it was called when the portion was cut. THE EXTENT GAP IS A SUBDIVISION, NOT AN ERROR, AND IT CLOSES EXACTLY: this row's 10386.1 ha minus the roll's portion 6 (4728.2 ha, which our own row PAR-000144 also carries) is 5657.9 ha, which is the roll's portion 5 to the tenth of a hectare. Portion 6 was cut out of portion 5. Ours is the portion as first cut; the roll's is what remains.
