The citation as it was given

THE DIAGRAM FOR THE FARM THE TOWN STANDS ON, and it answers three things this project has written around. Its own words: "The above Diagram Represents the loan Farm KLAARE STROOM including the annexed Government ground containing together 6498 MORGEN'S, Surveyed for the WIDOW DU PRE. Situated in the Field Cornetcy of C. Halling Zwarte Berg." (1) THE TITLE IS DATED 15 APRIL 1841 - P.A.Q. 5-8 - which is the day STO-0007 is named for. Klaarstroom is one of the farms titled on it. (2) ITS NEIGHBOURS ARE OURS: bounded North by MIDDLE WATER, South by VROLYKHEID, East by TREKA, West by WILGAMOUNT. Two of the five written-up farms lie against it north and south. (3) AN ENDORSEMENT names P.H. DU PLESSIS & 2 OTHERS against the REMAINDER. I first read the date as 18 August 1836; SRC-225 shows it is 18 August 1886 and the title is P.A.Q. 3-20 - the 1886 resurvey of the remainder, framed by J.A. Thwaits. So du Plessis took the remainder of Klaarstroom in 1886, FORTY-FIVE YEARS AFTER the 1841 title, not five years before it. Same surname as the du Plessis holding Zeekoegat at the 1891 gold rush (STO-0002), and now only five years apart. [TO VERIFY whether it is the same man] DRAWN ON THE FACE: the Klaarwater stream, a solid black building - the werf - and beside it "9 Morgen of arable". Nine morgen of ploughland out of 6 498, which is the whole Karoo argument in one annotation. | The BACK of this sheet is read at SRC-231.
