[1 Aug 2026, SRC-183 - his own death notice] *** BORN AT MIDDELWATER, DIED AT KLAARSTROOM IN THE MARICO. *** His death notice gives his birthplace as 'MIDDELWATER, C.C.' and his place of death as 'te Klaarstroom, Dist. Marico, Z.A.R.' - the Karoo farm his mother grew up on, and the Transvaal farm her cousin named for it in 1848. Landbouwer, married, will known, estate over 25 pounds. Seven children: three of age (C.J. S.J. W.J. van Zyl) and four minors, the youngest born 1893. Reported by D.L. Botha, assistant veldkornet of Wijk Klein Marico. AGE CONFLICT NOT RESOLVED: '55 jaar 4 maanden en 12 dagen' on 22 March 1895 implies a birth about 10 November 1839; this row carries 29 April 1839. Both 1839.
