Afrikaans naming repeats hard, and the Cape Dutch naming pattern reuses a name on purpose, a child who died young has the name given again to a later sibling. These are different people. Never match on a name alone.

Research notes

DIRECT ANCESTOR - Frans's 6x-GREAT-grandfather, and THE ANSWER TO THE ARRIVAL QUESTION one generation deeper. Married Dina Carolina BritzH at TULBAGH, 10 April 1749; twelve children. His son Ockert married at Swellendam in 1783. So the trail is Tulbagh (1749) -> Swellendam (1783) -> Graaff-Reinet (1809-1816) -> Beaufort West (1819) -> the Koup (1823): four generations and seventy-four years from the Land van Waveren to Middelwater. [31 Jul 2026] MERGED PER-000452 into this row. Both rows carry FamilySearch id LHLG-SXG, so they are one person. Kept PER-000230 ('Jacobus OosthuizenL (b.1722)'); merged PER-000452 ('Jacobus OosthuizenL'). Exposed by the _FID backfill of 31 Jul 2026, which gave nearly every person an id to collide on; before that these had no shared key. Check LHLG-SXG on FamilySearch before assuming the upstream tree needs anything - it is usually the LOCAL tree that is stale (LEAD-0021). Moved across: tree id=. DISAGREEMENTS, kept rather than resolved - the FamilySearch id settles these in one click: display_name: kept 'Jacobus OosthuizenL (b.1722)', PER-000452 said 'Jacobus OosthuizenL'.
