Research notes
DIRECT ANCESTOR - Frans's great-grandmother, also missing until now. Born on Bokvlakte. WALTERS is a surname the project had not seen at all. [SRC-074]
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-392] HER DAUGHTER ON HER: "'n baie slim en hardwerkende vrou. Sy was uitstekend met besigheid en het agentskappe van Steward + Lloyds en baie ander gehad en die hele dorp en distrik voorsien." She ran the agencies, not merely her husband's household, and the memoir says so plainly. Married 10 November 1919, which is the date this model already held.
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-393] HER AGE ON THE MARRIAGE REGISTER IS 17, on 10 November 1919. This row holds a birth of 6 December 1900, which would have made her 18 that day. One of the two is out by a year and the register is the older witness; a birth in December 1901 would fit it. Her father consented in writing, so she was a minor on any reading. [TO VERIFY]
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-395] CALLED MALIE in the family, from the 1987 typescript's list of the seven surviving Walters children (the eldest, and the page says so).
[11 Aug 2026, SRC-395] HER BIRTH IS CONFIRMED TO THE DAY by the family's own typescript: "Gebore: 6 Desember 1900 - Williston", which is what this row holds and which the 1919 marriage register contradicted by entering her age as 17. She was 18. The register is the older document and it is wrong here. SHE TAUGHT SCHOOL before she married - "na skool op 'n plaasskool op Soetwater skoolgehou" - and met her husband at a funeral. He always said she had been wearing a red coat with fur round the collar.
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
