TRANSCRIPTION. Printed heading: "1919 Huwelik bevestigd te AMANDELBOOM, in de Parochie van AMANDELBOOM, in het Distrikt van WILLISTON, 1919". No. 365, wanneer getrouwd 10 November 1919. "Petrus Gideon van Rensburg", ouderdom laatste verjaardag 28, Europ., JONKMAN, rang of beroep WERKMAN, woonplaats tijdens het huwelik WILLISTON, na huweliksgeboden, toestemming: a dash. "Maria Margarietha Walters", 17, Europ., JONGEDOCHTER, no occupation, woonplaats WILLISTON, huweliksgeboden, toestemming "J. A. WALTERS, VADER". "Getrouwd in de Ned. Ger. Kerk te Amandelboom voormeld, na huweliksgeboden, door mij J. H. Kuhn, Leeraar der Ned. Ger. Kerk." Signed by the parties P. G. van Rensburg and M. M. Walters; in the presence of G. P. Pieterse and J. M. Walters. IT SETTLES A DISAGREEMENT THAT WAS OPENED AN HOUR EARLIER. Trudie's 1987 memoir (SRC-392) gives her father's birth as 7 APRIL 1890; this model holds 7 May 1891. THE REGISTER GIVES HIS AGE AT LAST BIRTHDAY AS 28 on 10 November 1919, which fits a birth in 1891 and does not fit 1890, when he would have been 29. A daughter writing at 76 remembered the day and slipped the year. The model's 1891 stands and the memoir's April is not thereby proved wrong about the month. HER AGE DOES NOT FIT AS CLEANLY. The register says 17; this model holds her born 6 December 1900, which would make her 18 on that day. One of the two is out by a year, and the register is the older witness. Her father's consent is recorded either way, so she was under 21. [TO VERIFY] THE CONSENT CONFIRMS THE PARENTAGE INDEPENDENTLY of any tree: "J. A. Walters, vader" is Jacobus Abraham Walters, PER-000416, the "Oupa Walters" the memoir calls a cousin of Paul Kruger. LEAD-0164. AMANDELBOOM IS WILLISTON. The sheet uses both names in one line - the congregation is still Amandelboom, the magisterial district is already Williston. The mission station of Amandelboom was renamed Williston in 1918, so this register is written across the change. Anyone searching for this family's Williston records before about 1919 should be searching Amandelboom. HE WAS A WERKMAN IN 1919, which is exactly where the memoir puts him: he had left the Vos family at 25 with a horse, and the boring machine, the agencies and the mill all came afterwards.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
