Research notes

[5 Aug 2026, DOC-0240] Read off the deduction table on the back of the Minnies Kraal No. 112 diagram - survey record E2090/55 - which lists all eight portions cut from the farm in the single 1955 campaign, each with its own diagram and 1956 deed. Gedeelte 1 ('Ged' is Gedeelte, Portion - : SG diagram 8732/1955, 28.8422 morgen, deed 2302/1956. The diagram itself is not held here; this row rests on the parent's deduction table. TRANSCRIPTION CHECKED AGAINST THE GROUND: the recorded extent and the modern cadastral polygon for this portion agree to within about 1%, which is what gives confidence in a faint table. The smallest of the eight by a wide margin - about 24.7 ha against 756 to 1,524 ha for the others. WHAT THE GROUND ITSELF SAYS, since the paper does not. The polygon is a plain four-cornered block about 587 m by 906 m - compactness 0.52, so NOT the long thin strip a road or water-furrow servitude would give. And it sits exactly where THREE FARMS MEET: it touches Minnies Kraal portions 2 and 8, Klipgat No. 114 portion 10, and Rietkuil No. 119 portion 1. A small compact block surveyed at a three-farm corner is the shape of a shared beacon point, a fountain or an outspan - but the deduction table gives a number and no name, diagram 8732/1955 is not held here, and the Surveyor-General's own document list for this portion returns nothing. So the shape and the position are recorded and the purpose is not guessed. [TO VERIFY - diagram 8732/1955]

[10 Aug 2026, SRC-351/DOC-0263] ITS OWN DIAGRAM, SG 8732/55, surveyed August-September 1955 and approved 16 January 1956. 'Gedeelte 1 van die plaas MINNIES KRAAL Nr 112', 28.8422 morge. THIS FARM REALLY IS MINNIES KRAAL, unlike farm 12. Boundary list off the face: Restant van die plaas RIETKUIL to the north, ASCHKOP to the west, Gedeelte 2 to the east and Gedeelte 8 to the south-west. Aschkop is Klipgat No. 114 Portion 10, PAR-000113. The file arrived hinted '12 1' and the sheet says 112; the sheet governs, 8.

[13 Aug 2026, SRC-436] NAMED FROM THE 2023 VALUATION ROLL, which gives this portion as "Askop" (24.7043 ha). This row previously read "Minnies Kraal Portion 1 (No. 112 Ptn 1)", which was a farm-and-portion label rather than a name. The roll is a rates document and good evidence for what the ground is called now; it says nothing about what it was called when the portion was cut.
