Research notes

[5 Aug 2026 inbox] Portion 8 of Klein Valie No. 182, NAMED GROOTLEEGTE - a portion OF PORTION 2, Koude Veld. Subdivisional diagram under Sect. 24(a) of Act 9 of 1927, surveyed November 1932 by W.J. Tribelhorn, approved by Surveyor-General A.J.B. Simons. Figure A.B.C.D. Bounded by Gideons Hoop, Windwaai, Groote Leegte and Crown Land. Annexed to Transfer Deed 5650 dated 7.9.1933 in favour of L.v.W. Schoeman. Original diagram 2117/1912. TWO SIMILAR NAMES ON ONE FARM: this is GROOTLEEGTE, 377.5 morgen, cut out of Koude Veld in 1932. Portion 5 is GROOTE LEEGTE, 513 morgen, cut off the parent farm in 1912. They are different parcels and they adjoin - Portion 8's own diagram names Groote Leegte as its neighbour. Do not merge them.

[13 Aug 2026] Renamed to the one form this model uses for every portion - the portion's own name, then the parent farm, its number and the portion in brackets - so that a name is legible in a list, a search result and a map popup without the reader having to know which farm number is which. It read "Grootleegte (Klein Valie Ptn 8)" before. Nothing about the ground changed.

The research behind this page, kept separate from it: dated working notes, open questions, and what is not yet settled.

What the record is missing

Found by breaks.py reading the model against itself, not written by hand, each one is a shape of missing record, not a fault in the data. The whole set is on the questions page.
