[9 Aug 2026] A FAMILYSEARCH ID I MISREAD. LV6B-823 is correct . I had read B23 off a screenshot of the chart; the row was right and the reading was mine. Recorded because an 8 and a B are one glyph apart in that typeface and the next person to transcribe from a screen will meet it too.

Verouderd — hieronder beantwoord [11 Aug 2026, SRC-379, SRC-380] THE MARRIAGE REGISTER enters her as CHRISTINA ELIZABETH NEL, aged 18, jonge dochter, OF BRANDVLEI, married 15 June 1885 in the school building at Brandvlei with her parents' consent. An age of 18 in June 1885 implies a birth in 1866 or 1867; this row holds 1868, from the compiled tree, which would make her 17. Neither is a birth record. [TO VERIFY] JACOBUS JOHANNES GIDEON NEL stood at her daughter's baptism in 1887, and her son born in 1888 was christened with that name. On the Cape naming order he is very likely her father. It is not entered as a parentage: the register gives no relationship and this project does not join people on a name. LEAD-0159.

[11 Aug 2026, SRC-399, SRC-400] HER BIRTH YEAR IS CORRECTED FROM 1868 TO 22 AUGUST 1867, on the Calvinia baptism index and on her own death notice, which gives her age as 27 years 6 months on 28 February 1895 and so computes to about 28 August 1867. HER PARENTS ARE NAMED TWICE: JACOBUS JOHANNES GIDEON NEL and ANNA JACOBA VAN WYK. That closes LEAD-0159 and it does more than the lead asked - BOTH of them stood as witnesses at her daughter's baptism in 1887, so two of the four names at that font are the child's maternal grandparents. SHE DIED AT 27 AT BRASFONTEIN, CALVINIA, on 28 February 1895, a farmer's wife, LEAVING FIVE CHILDREN ALL UNDER AGE: Elsie Johanna, Jacobus Johannes Gideon, Schalk Willem Burger, Anna Jacoba and Elizabeth Cristina. This model holds two of the five. Her husband outlived her by sixty-one years.

[11 Aug 2026, SRC-412] SHE AND HER HUSBAND WERE SECOND COUSINS, and this record held both halves without joining them. Her mother ANNA JACOBA VAN WYK was the daughter of ANNA JACOBA LOUISA VAN DER MERWE 1823-1893 (PER-001779), who is a daughter of Schalk Willem van der MerweL 1794-1866 and Anna Jacoba LouwM. Her husband PER-000762 descends from the same couple by the other line, through Jacobus Adriaan and Schalk Willem Burger. Both are great-grandchildren of Schalk Willem and Anna Jacoba, so the 1885 marriage at Brandvlei was between SECOND COUSINS. PER-001779 was imported into this model earlier the same day from her own mother's 1868 death notice, which names her as "Anna Jacoba Louisa, gehuwd met GERRIT JACOBUS VAN WYK" - so the van Wyk marriage that makes the connection is on an original document, not only on a tree. THIS IS THE THIRD COUSIN MARRIAGE IN FOUR GENERATIONS of this line: Schalk Willem Burger married his first cousin in 1854, his father's household married Lubbes and Burgers who had married each other, and this is the third.
