Research notes

[5 Aug 2026 inbox] Portion 1 of Klein Valie No. 182, NAMED OUDE KRAAL on its own diagram 2115/1912 (K.M. von OppellM, July 1912), Field-Cornetcy of Kredouw. The sheet gives the whole figure a.b.c.d.e.f as 2102 morgen 186 square roods and the portion itself, a'.b'.c.d'.e', as 1737 morgen. Bounded N by Crown Land and land granted to C. HattingM 15 April 1841; E by Gideons Hoop; SE by Tafel Berg and Crown Land; W by Nieuwe Kraal. Deducted No. 2859, 28 Oct 1912. Copied from the diagram relating to Transfer 11089 dated 8.10.1919. Servitude water canals PQ, RS vide D/T 4072/1940, SG 6.5.1940. Portion 10 (12.0301 morgen) was later cut out of it. EXTENT CORRECTED 5 Aug 2026: the sheet carries TWO figures and the first reading here took the wrong one. 'Area Fig. a.b.c.d.e.f. 2102 Morgen 186 Square Roods' is von Oppell's own 1912 survey; 'the diagram lettered a'.b'.c.d'.e'. represents 1737 Morgen' is the PRIMED figure, which his report says is the old boundary he differed from and drew in red. The modern cadastral polygon measures 1,794.6 ha against 1,800.9 ha for 2102 mg 186 sr - agreement to 0.4% - so the ground registered today is his survey, not the older line.

[13 Aug 2026] Renamed to the one form this model uses for every portion - the portion's own name, then the parent farm, its number and the portion in brackets - so that a name is legible in a list, a search result and a map popup without the reader having to know which farm number is which. It read "Oude Kraal (Klein Valie Ptn 1)" before. Nothing about the ground changed.

The research behind this page, kept separate from it: dated working notes, open questions, and what is not yet settled.

What the record is missing

Found by breaks.py reading the model against itself, not written by hand, each one is a shape of missing record, not a fault in the data. The whole set is on the questions page.
