Ockert Jacobus Oosthuizen names a Marico farm 'Klaarstroom'

Ockert Jacobus Oosthuizen (PER-000211, b.1809 on Vrolikheid per family tradition), son of the 1833 Vrolykheid survey applicant, helps establish the first four Marico farms and names his KLAARSTROOM after the farm/place bordering his birthplace. A portion remains with Van Zyl descendants (2026). NOTE: this real farm is also why family-tree geocoding corrupts Karoo places to "Klaarstroom, Marico, Transvaal" - the corruption trap and the true story are the same farm. | [1 Aug 2026] WHAT THE MARICO IS, briefly, because this project keeps meeting it: the district of the Marico (Madikwe) river in the western Transvaal, whose name the Bahurutshe read as 'there is blood'. Potgieter's Voortrekkers took the country between the Vaal and the Limpopo after defeating Mzilikazi's Ndebele at that river in 1837, and the Hurutshe, who had been there some three centuries, found themselves sharing it. Ockert Jacobus was in the first wave of farms eleven years later. It is Herman Charles Bosman's country - he taught at Heimweeberg in 1926 - which is why the name is famous out of all proportion to the district. *** IT IS NOT THIS PROJECT'S GROUND. *** The Marico is where one Koup family WENT.
