Fred van Zyl (descendant): his ancestor Wynand van Zyl married Johanna Jacomina Oosthuizen, "dogter van Ockert Almero Oosthuizen, van Middelwater"; his oumagrootjie Susara was the daughter of Ockert Jacobus Oosthuizen, "gebore en afkomstig van die plaas Vrolikheid"; Ockert Jacobus's father Jacobus and Ockert Almero were brothers; Ockert Jacobus helped establish the first four Marico farms in 1848 and named his farm KLAARSTROOM "vernoem na die oorspronklike plaas en plek van sy herkoms" - Fred still owns a portion. Tree check (29 Jul 2026): all four claims reconcile - Johanna Jacomina (1808-1884, eldest child of the root couple, m. Beaufort West 1 Feb 1829); Susara = Susarra Cornelia Oosthuizen (1845-1923), daughter of Ockert Jacobus (1809-1876, son of Jacobus Johannes c.1785-1867), married Jan Adriaan van Zyl (1839-1895), SON of Wynand and Johanna Jacomina - the two strands are one marriage, and Fred descends from both brothers. [FAMILY] for the Vrolikheid-birth and Marico traditions; treat per 10.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
