READ IN FULL AND SEARCHED, 14 Aug 2026, which is what this project had been waiting for: EVT-000212, S014 and S032 all carried a [TO VERIFY] that could only be settled by the memoir itself. WHAT THE SEARCH ESTABLISHES, as counts over the whole text rather than as an impression: KLAARSTROOM 0 occurrences, PRINCE ALBERT 0, MEIRINGSPOORT 0, KREDOUW 0, KOUP/GOUPH 0, OOSTHUIZEN 0, MARINCOWITZ 0. SCHEEPERS 3, and all three are second-hand - twice in the narrative, where Reitz learns from captured papers and from talk that Scheepers had already been captured and executed for train-wrecking, and once in the index. SWARTBERGEN 9, all of them in the Smuts campaign late in the book: Reitz crosses the range southward into the valley running towards Oudtshoorn, and later recrosses it northward into the Karoo. He names ARMOED on the southern side and an unnamed 'tiny village' at the foot of the pass. Scheepers was executed on 18 January 1902, so everything in these chapters postdates the Klaarstroom raid of February 1901 by about a year. TEXT QUALITY: this is an OCR of a scan and it shows - 'Brcslersflat' for Bresler's Flat, 'oflf' for off - so a word-level absence would be weak evidence. A place-name absence across 624,000 characters is not, and the terms above were searched case-insensitively.
