TRANSCRIPTION. "The farm BISSIES EN ANTEEL KOLK 91. The figure, A-H, represents the Crown Land Farm called Bissies en Anteel Kolk containing 11075 Morgen 410 Square Roods of Land, situate in the DIVISION OF FRASERBURG, FIELD-CORNETCY No. 3, and bounded Ewd by RIET POORT, N by WATER KLOOF and ZAND PUTS, NW by ZAND PUTS and KWAAI PUTS, S by DASSIE KLOOF and SE by VAN RENENS PLAATS. Surveyed by me, (Sgd.) SAML. MELVILL, Govt. Surveyor, June 1870." Beacons pointed out to Field Cornet E. G. DEVENISH; numerical data certified by L. Marquard, Examiner. Area in English Measure 23,442.10 acres. ON THE FACE OF IT, and this is the part that matters: a pan at the centre marked AANTEEL KOLK, and at the western side a feature marked BISSIES DAM WITH A DWELLING BESIDE IT. IT IS A THIRD CANDIDATE FOR BIESIES AND THE FIRST WITH A DOCUMENT BEHIND IT. LEAD-0156 has been choosing between two coordinates, one from an entomologist's collecting list and one from a voting-station schedule. This is a surveyed Crown farm carrying the name on its own title, in the division Frans has said before is where he expects Biesies to be and where his father is buried. IT IS NOT YET TESTED AGAINST THE ONE THING THAT DISCRIMINATED. Frans's own test is proximity to BRANDVLEI, which separated the two earlier candidates cleanly at 74 km against 141 km. This farm has no coordinate here: it is not in the Calvinia cadastre this project holds, the CSG national service returned nothing for BISSIES or ANTEEL, and the diagram carries no latitude. Fraserburg TOWN is about 180 km from Brandvlei, which would argue against it, but the historical Fraserburg division ran far north of the town and Field-cornetcy No. 3 may be its northern end. UNTIL THE FARM IS PLACED, THIS IS A NAME AND NOT A LOCATION. THE FIVE NEIGHBOURS ARE THE WAY TO PLACE IT without the cadastre: Riet Poort, Water Kloof, Zand Puts, Kwaai Puts, Dassie Kloof and van Renens Plaats are six named farms that must adjoin each other, and any one of them found on a map fixes all of them.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
