TRANSCRIPTION. "18) Den 9e February 1806. 't kind ELISABETH MARIA, geb. d. 15 Oct 1805. Ouders: WOUTER THERON, HESTER MARAIS. Getuigen: Petrus Jacobus du Toit; Elisabeth Maria Theron; JOHANNES PETRUS VAN DER MERWE; Magdalena Maria Theron; Petrus Joh's du Plessis; ELISABETH MARIA MALHERBE." IT CONFIRMS A PARENTAGE THIS MODEL CARRIED FROM A TREE. Wouter Theron and Hester Marais are PER-001655's generation in this record as her parents, and here they are on the register. Her birth, 15 October 1805, and her baptism four months later at Tulbagh are both new. A VAN DER MERWE STANDS AT THIS FONT EIGHTEEN YEARS BEFORE THE MARRIAGE. Johannes Petrus van der Merwe is a witness at the baptism of the girl who married Jacobus Alewyn van der Merwe in 1824, and entry 17 on the same opening is the child of Schalk Willem Pienaar and ANNA MARIA VAN DER MERWE, witnessed by ELSIE JACOBA VAN DER MERWE. Neither is identified and nothing is claimed from it; what it shows is that the two families were already standing at each other's fonts at Tulbagh before either came near the Hantam. ELISABETH MARIA MALHERBE among the witnesses is a surname that reaches this project from the other side entirely, through the 1903 Oosthuizen marriage and the two brothers killed in 1900.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
