- [TO VERIFY] Dutch Reformed Church baptism register, pages 106-107. The congregation is not printed on this opening; this model already places the baptism at Clanwilliam and the date on the page agrees with it to the day.

TRANSCRIPTION. Columns: Gedoopt / Kinderen / Ouders / Getuigen / Geboren. "April 7 | Schalk Willem Burger | Jacobus Adrn. v d Merwe, Anna Magdalena Wilhelmina Lubbe" and, in the witness column, "Andreas Oberholster, Maria Elisth. Louw, Frans Jacs. Lubbe, Hester Johanna Burger, Schalk Willem van d: Merwe, Anna Jacoba Louw", born "23 Feby 1833". READ THE COLUMNS WITH CARE - THE TWO PAGES ARE OUT OF STEP. The witness column runs one block lower than the children column, and the clerk drew DASHED PEN LINES across the gutter to tie each entry to its own witnesses. The block physically level with this child belongs to another entry and gives 18 January 1833 with van Aarde and van Zyl witnesses. The block this entry's dashed line points to gives 23 FEBRUARY 1833, which is the birth date this model already holds for PER-001629 to the day, and six witnesses who are his own grandparents. Both tests agree, so the pairing is not in doubt. ALL FOUR GRANDPARENTS STOOD AT THIS FONT. Schalk Willem van der Merwe (PER-001635) and Anna Jacoba Louw (PER-001636) are the father's parents; Frans Jacobus Lubbe (PER-001637) and Hester Johanna Burger (PER-001638) are the mother's. That is the first baptism in this project where all four appear together, and it accounts for the child's whole name: SCHALK WILLEM from the paternal grandfather, BURGER from the maternal grandmother's surname. The naming was not a guess and is now on paper. THE MOTHER GAINS A NAME. The register gives ANNA MAGDALENA WILHELMINA Lubbe; this model held her as Anna Magdalena. Recorded in doopnaam, per 5a-i. Andreas Oberholster and Maria Elisabeth Louw are not identified. Maria Elisabeth Louw is NOT PER-001769, the widow of Lokenburg, who died in 1823.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
