TRANSCRIBED FIELD BY FIELD. (1) Name - "Maria Magdalena Elizabeth van der Westhuizen, formerly Widow of Cornelis Petrus Jans van Vuuren, lastly Widow of Gabriel Antonie le Roux". (2) Birth-place - "Cango District Oudtshoorn". (3) Parents - LEFT BLANK. (4) Age - "sixty six years". (5) Condition in life - "AGRICULTURIST". (6) "Widow of G.A. le Roux". (7) Day of decease - "24th June 1880". (8) Where died - "at the farm HAGAS District Prince Albert". (9) Children - Johannes Martinus, Harmanus Petrus, Gert Adriaan, Cornelis Petrus, and Maria Magdalena Elizabeth, all Jans/Janse van Vuuren, the last "Married to CAREL FREDERIK GUSTAVUS PETZER". (10) Property - "Moveable Valued about 200 pounds". Signed by C.F. Petzer, "Cousin in law of deceased". WHAT IT ADDS, and it is a lot. She REMARRIED after Cornelis Petrus died in 1863 - to Gabriel Antonie le Roux - and was his widow when she died. She was born at CANGO, district Oudtshoorn. She is recorded in her own right as an AGRICULTURIST, not as a dependant. Her age fixes her birth at about 1814, which matches the tree. And the Petzer son-in-law, whom the 1863 notice gave only as "[C.P.?] Petzer", is CAREL FREDERIK GUSTAVUS PETZER - who is also the man who filled in this form. A GAP OF SEVEN YEARS: she died in June 1880 and the notice was not filed until December 1887. The form itself says it must be filed within six days, or six weeks where there is a will. Seven years is neither, and the reason is not stated.
