Built 1676 at the VOC yard in Middelburg for the KAMER VAN ZEELAND; 570 last, 1,140 ton. Master KORNELIS KLAASZ. DEPARTED TEXEL 13 MAY 1685 - the same date as the muster enlistment, which is how we know he was aboard. ARRIVED THE CAPE 17 SEPTEMBER 1685 after 127 days; departed the Cape 13 October 1685; reached BATAVIA 24 DECEMBER 1685. The ship was lost near the SHETLAND ISLANDS on her fifth homeward voyage in 1690 - the same year he took his discharge and stayed. [TO VERIFY] whether he was aboard for the Batavia leg or set down at the Cape; the muster only records where he left the Company's service. Frans's working note gives the chamber as Amsterdam; vocsite gives Zeeland. Minor conflict, recorded not resolved.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
