The citation as it was given
THE ARRIVAL RECORD. Voornaam Johan; achternaam Oosthuijsz; HERKOMST WOERDEN; datum indiensttreding 13-05-1685; functie ADELBORST; uitgevaren met het schip LAND VAN SCHOUWEN; datum uit dienst 15-08-1690; waar uit dienst KAAP DE GOEDE HOOP; reden uit dienst VRIJBURGER; schuldbrief JA, maandbrief NEE. The enlistment date is the sailing date, so this is the day he left the Netherlands. SCHULDBRIEF JA means he sailed owing money - the VOC advanced kit and passage against future wages, which is what a man with nothing did. CAUTION ON HERKOMST: this is the INDEX. Several researchers report the underlying scheepssoldijboek reads WERDEN, and his own will of 1722 is said to give WEERL. See SRC-100.
Kept verbatim. This project contradicts published genealogies and corrects a family's own oral tradition, so every claim has to be checkable by someone who was not in the room.
