Afrikaans naming repeats hard, and the Cape Dutch naming pattern reuses a name on purpose, a child who died young has the name given again to a later sibling. These are different people. Never match on a name alone.

[9 Aug 2026, SRC-348] BORN AT TYGERHOEK on 30 October 1813, the same ground his uncle was born on five years earlier. The 1839 death notice files Tygerhoek under the HANTAM ward and FamilySearch files this birth under CALVINIA; and christened at TULBAGH on 12 October 1814, nearly a year later. The delay is the distance: the family was already in the Hantam and the congregation was still Tulbagh, about 400 km south. Died 12 July 1855 at Calvinia and buried there. His father's 1866 death notice lists him first among nine children and marks him 'overleden nalatende 4 kinderen waarvan 1 minderjarig is' [SRC-346], which corroborates both the death before 1866 and the parentage this model already held.
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
