Research notes

[TREE] Added 2026-07-31 by kin_sweep.py under the one-degree rule: parent of Catharina Isabella BruijnH. Thin record, name, dates and the family link only. NO PLACE IMPORTED: the tree's place strings are systematically wrong and are not evidence.

[11 Aug 2026, SRC-398] HE IS NAMED AS THE FATHER at his daughter's baptism at Calvinia on 8 September 1894, spelled BRUYN as on his gravestone. This is the first original document in this project to carry him: everything else on this row came from the tree.

[11 Aug 2026, SRC-401] HE WAS BORN IN HOLLAND, AND HE IS THE ONLY ANCESTOR IN THIS DIRECT LINE WHO WAS. His 1929 death registration at Calvinia enters his birthplace as "HOLLAND, EUROPE"; FamilySearch narrows it to DE RIJP in NOORD-HOLLAND on 23 February 1855, which the form does not corroborate and which is not verified here. Everyone else this project follows back to the seventeenth century was already at the Cape. HE DIED AT 75 IN CALVINIA on 6 November 1929, with NO OCCUPATION and on an OLD AGE PENSION, of acute diarrhoea with cardiac asthenia and congestion of the lungs, attended by Dr A. C. Heethling. The informant was an adult relative present at the death who signed H. Bruyn and gave his residence as BEAUFORT WEST. He was buried at Calvinia and the stone is photographed (GRV-1456). HE MARRIED AT VAN RHYNSDORP, per his widow's 1942 sterfkennis, and the family farm was BREEKBEENKOLK.

These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
