Research notes

[SRC-072] Farmed Botterkraal with his brother as Gebroeders Swanepoel, gave it up in 1931 and ran a cafe, bakery and boarding house in Market Street, Prince Albert. Died unmarried of heart failure at 44 - rheumatic fever as a child had damaged his heart. Buried on Botterkraal. His insolvent estate (MOOC 66870, 1939) is what forced the sale of the farm, and it contains the 1940 fencing affidavit that names every neighbour.

A boundary description for Botterkraal (Jansenskraal No. 104 Ptn 2) names Estate late P.J. Swanepoel, a surveyor stating on the record that this person held the adjoining ground. We do hold Swanepoel tenure elsewhere, but none on this boundary and none at this date.

What would settle it The diagram's own date fixes the window. The quitrent or erfpacht register for that year names the holder of the adjoining place, and an estate inventory will name the farm outright.
