Research notes
[13 Aug 2026] DISTRICT CONTEXT, AND NOTHING MORE. Added when Frans extended the western bound another 10 km- "many graves there", and he is right: ten burial grounds already recorded here sit in this strip, several of them named for the farms themselves. The name is the Surveyor-General's own P_FARMNAME (FRANS KRAAL) and the polygon is his; the cadastre gives the whole farm as 1260.2 ha. Nothing here records who held this ground or when. NOTE FOR THE VISCHAT QUESTION: PAR-000008 carries farm_no '124/142' and the portion string 'in Frans Kraal', so this farm is one of the two the Vischat record points at. The 2023 valuation roll puts Visgat on farm 124 portion 2 (PAR-000116, linked same_as), which does not explain the 142. Whether Vischat also touched this ground is open and is NOT decided here. LEAD-0018.
The research behind this page, kept separate from it: dated working notes, open questions, and what is not yet settled.
What the record is missing
-
Nobody is on record as ever having held this
third order · B8 never-held
Frans Kraal No. 142 is in the model and drawn on the map, and carries no ownership record of any kind, not a grant, not a transfer, not an occupation.
What would settle it The Surveyor-General's diagram for the farm number names the grantee and the date; the deed reference on it opens the transfer chain.
Found by breaks.py reading the model against itself, not written by hand,
each one is a shape of missing record, not a fault in the data.
