The 1960s cores are re-read, and the shale gas is deflated

de Kock and colleagues went back to the LEGACY SOEKOR CORES - SP1/69, WE1/66, SW1/67 - and found the Ecca Group metamorphosed and overmature, its gas driven off by dolerite sills, with almost nothing desorbing despite high organic carbon. Their realistic figure was about 13 Tcf against claims of up to 485. THE SAME BOREHOLES DRILLED FIFTY YEARS EARLIER TO LOOK FOR OIL WERE WHAT SAID THE GAS WAS NOT THERE EITHER.
