TRANSCRIPTION. No. 101, 27 Dec 1854. Signed S. W. B. van der Merwe and E. J. van der Merwe, in the presence of two Louws. "WEDUWENAAR" IS THE WORD THIS PROJECT SPENT THE MORNING ARGUING ABOUT. At twenty-two he is entered as a WIDOWER, and that is independent proof of two things it had been fighting over: that he had married before, and that the first wife was dead by December 1854. He married Anna Maria Visagie in January 1851 (SRC-383) and she died in 1853. SO THE SEQUENCE IS NOW DOCUMENTED END TO END and none of it rests on a compiled tree: married at 17 in 1851, widowed by 22, remarried at 22 in 1854 to his first cousin. On 11 August this project opened a lead arguing the first wife probably belonged to another man, closed it when her marriage register arrived, and here is the third document saying the same thing from the other side. MARRIED ON A FARM, NOT IN A CHURCH - on Welbedacht, which is also where the bride was born nineteen years earlier (SRC-405) and which is her father's ground. His residence, ONDERROGGEVELD, and hers, ACHTERZAND, are both new to this record. The district is CLANWILLIAM: Calvinia was a parish inside it in 1854 and did not become a district of its own until later.
Woordeliks gehou. Hierdie projek weerspreek gepubliseerde genealogieë en stel 'n familie se eie mondelinge oorlewering reg, so elke bewering moet nagegaan kan word deur iemand wat nie in die vertrek was nie.
