Afrikaans naming repeats hard, and the Cape Dutch naming pattern reuses a name on purpose, a child who died young has the name given again to a later sibling. These are different people. Never match on a name alone.
Wat ons nie weet nie
- 2 other people in this model carry the same name. Never match on a name alone.
A sourced gap beats an unsourced fill. These are the open questions on this person, stated rather than papered over.

These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
-
27 years, and the ground changes hands to nobody we can follow
second order · B1 succession
On Rondabel, David Jan StrydomM (Daniel son) is the last owner recorded from 1841-04-15, and the next entry is Jan Adriaan OosthuizenL and Stephanus Johannes TheronL from 1868-01-21, 27 years later, with no person in common. DOC-0186 records the later arrival but not the 27 years before it.
What would settle it The Deeds Office transfer register for this farm between 1841 and 1868. A transfer names its predecessor in title, so one deed closes the whole gap.
-
“D.T. Theron F.Z. (erfpacht loan-place)” held ground next door and we have no tenure for them
third order · B4 unheld-owner
A boundary description for Vrolykheid Nr. 61 (Tulbagh) names D.T. Theron F.Z.M (erfpacht loan-place), a surveyor stating on the record that this person held the adjoining ground. We do hold Theron tenure elsewhere, but none on this boundary and none at this date.
What would settle it The diagram's own date fixes the window. The quitrent or erfpacht register for that year names the holder of the adjoining place, and an estate inventory will name the farm outright.
