Spreeufontein and Klein Waterval were not the only ground being turned over. Prospecting also went on at Vrischgewaacht, Hartebeesfontein, ZEEKOEGAT ITSELF, Modderdrift, Ganzekraal and Toornitzkraal, and a great deal of excitement attached to Heuningkop at Leeu Gamka. Gold was also found on RIETFONTEIN, granted about 1858 to J.S. de Villiers because of its strong perennial fountain, a camping and grazing stop on the earliest north-south route, named for the reed bed at the water. Some of those diggings can still be seen. NOTE THE SHAPE OF IT: the rush is usually told as one farm, and it was at least eight.
