WHY THIS IS HELD: it identifies the two Visagie women who stand as witnesses at the 1863 baptism (SRC-378), and identifying them is what finally explains why a Visagie kept turning up where a van der Merwe was expected. HOUSEHOLD ONE. IZAAK HEREMIAS VISAGIE 1792-1867 (LZP9-YQL) x JOHANNA SOPHIA VAN DER MERWE 1796-1872 (LWFG-THQ), married Tulbagh 3 October 1812, FOURTEEN children. Two of them matter here: ANNA MARIA VISAGIE 1834-1853 (L7NN-3MF), who married Schalk Willem Burger van der Merwe in 1851 and is PER-001770; and HELENA JANETTA ELIZABETH VISAGIE 1841-1875 (GH2H-Y6V), who is the "Helena Jonetta Elizabeth Visagie" standing at the 1863 font. SHE IS THE FIRST WIFE'S YOUNGEST SISTER, AT THE BAPTISM OF HIS SON BY THE SECOND WIFE. HOUSEHOLD TWO. HENDRIK JOHANNES VISAGIE 1801-1888 (G6CS-GCD) x LOUISA JACOBA VAN DER MERWE 1802-1845 (LZ2Z-2XD), seven children, among them MARIA MAGDALENA VISAGIE 1829-1896 (GWG8-WJW), who married Sybrand Albertus Strauss (GWG8-ZRL) in 1846, and HENDRINA MARIA JOHANNA VISAGIE 1837-1877 (96CS-38R), who is the "Henderina Maria Visagie" of the 1863 font. BOTH VISAGIE FATHERS MARRIED VAN DER MERWE WOMEN. That is the shape of it: two Visagie households, each already carrying a van der Merwe mother, one of them supplying a first wife and both of them supplying a witness at the font twelve years after that wife died. The Visagie name belongs in this household's orbit. It does not belong in the mother's column of entry 62. NONE OF THESE PEOPLE IS ENTERED IN THIS MODEL except Anna Maria Visagie, who married a direct ancestor. The rest are collateral and 9a holds this line in as ancestry, not as a community. Their FamilySearch ids are recorded so the identification can be picked up again without redoing it. A compiled tree is a compiled tree: the marriages here are corroborated by SRC-383 and SRC-384, the sibling lists are not.
