TRANSCRIPTION: "The annexed Diagram, lettered a.b.c.d.e.f.g. represents 10340 Morgen 242 Square Roods of Crown Land, situated in the Division of Calvinia, Fieldcornetcy of South Onder Roggeveld being the farm called MATJES FONTEIN AND ZWARTLANDS LEEGTE. Bounded N.ds. by Annex Matjes Vley South. S. by Ram Kraal. E. by Leeuwen Kuil and Zand Kraal. W. by Water Valley and Annex Krans Fontein. Surveyed for me, by Mr. E. B. Watermeyer, G.S. (Sgd) Wm. de Smidt, Govt. Surveyor. N.B. The beacons were pointed out to Field Cornet's Asst. A. W. S. LOUW." Examiner Max Jurisch. THE BIRTHPLACE OF A DIRECT ANCESTOR. Frans Jacobus Wilhelmus van der Merwe was born on this ground on 24 March 1863, twenty-two years before this survey. A LOUW points out the beacons, and Louw is the surname his grandfather married.
