THE ENTRIES: 1 name MAGDALENA STORM BORN BOTES. 2 birth-place GOUPH, DISTRICT OF BEAUFORT WEST. 3 parents JACOB ABRAHAM BOTES and ELSJE DOROTHEA GOUWS. 4 age 87 YEARS. 5 condition in life FARMER'S WIDOW. 6 widow of the late HENDRIK WILLEM STORM. 7 day of decease 10 APRIL 1884. 8 died at HER OWN [HOUSE] AT PRINCE ALBERT. 9 children: Elsje Dorothea married to Franciscus Fredericus Muller; Jacob Abraham Storm; Willem Johannes Stephanus Storm; Andreas Stefanus Storm; Aletta Jacoba married to D.J. Louw; the children of HENDRIK JACOBUS STORM, deceased; the child of JAN WILLEM STORM, deceased. 10 'Moveable & Immoveable Property under the value of L2000.0.0 - which will be all sold immediately and the account filed.' SHE NEVER LEFT. Her son Hendrik Jacobus died at Ladybrand in the Orange Free State in 1879, and the family's move north had been read as a family move. It was not: SHE DIED AT HER OWN HOUSE AT PRINCE ALBERT IN 1884, twenty-nine years after her husband. Some sons went, the mother stayed. SHE WAS BORN IN THE KOUP. 'Gouph, District of Beaufort West' is the field cornetcy this project already holds as PLC-000020, and it is the ground this whole history sits on. Her age of 87 in April 1884 gives a birth about 1797; FamilySearch has her 1799-1884. SHE HELD IMMOVEABLE PROPERTY. That single word is the most useful thing on the page: there was LAND in this estate, to be sold immediately with the account filed. The account would name it. This project has a sixty-two year hole in the ownership record of Varsche Fontein between 1841 and 1903, and two Storm graves of 1848-49 sitting inside it. THE CHILDREN CONFIRM THE SEVEN. Five living and two dead, matching the seven children FamilySearch gives the couple exactly, and giving two married surnames the tree did not have: MULLER and LOUW. AND THE NAMING PATTERN CONFIRMS THE PARENTS INDEPENDENTLY. Their first son is Hendrik Jacobus for the father's father, and their second is JACOB ABRAHAM for the mother's father, JACOB ABRAHAM BOTES, exactly as the vernoemingspatroon prescribes.
