[3 Aug 2026, SRC-200] CREATED AS THE NAMED EXCEPTION TO THE WITNESS RULE: a witness does not create a person record, but a STORY SUBJECT does, and she is the subject of LEAD-0065. THREE ENTRIES IN THE BEAUFORT WEST REGISTER, three years apart. (1) BWB-216-09, 30 December 1838: she is baptised AS AN ADULT, born 1812, and where the register asks for parents the clerk wrote only EEN VRIJ PERSOON VAN KULEUR - a free person of colour. No witnesses were entered. The date sits four weeks after apprenticeship, the four-year successor to slavery at the Cape, ended on 1 December 1838. (2) BWB-224-06, 1 July 1839: a daughter, ANNA LEONORA, six months later, with Joseph Kersner as father. (3) BWB-257-03, 4 October 1841: a son, WILHELM FREDERICK, same husband, with Charles Pope and Mr P. Pope as witnesses. THE SURNAME. Read 'Abrahamke' on page 216 and ABRAHAMSE on both 224 and 257; two sheets against one, so Abrahamse is taken as the reading and the 216 form is recorded as the variant. That she is one woman across the three is INFERENCE from the given names, the rarity and the interval - strong, and not proven. [TO VERIFY] Nothing further is claimed about her. No parents, no origin, no farm.
