Navorsingsnotas
[SRC-074] Brother of Tokkie (PER-000007) and of ds Freddie Marincowitz (PER-000060). Almost certainly the Deacon Pat Marincowitz who gave the Zeekoegat church a set of silver communion cups in 1966 (STO-0006).
[1 Aug 2026, SRC-068 Zeekoegat cameo] CONFIRMED as the Deacon Pat Marincowitz who gave the communion cups in 1966 (EVT-000235), the cameo names him and his brother Freddie in the same passage. He and Helena farmed SLEUTELFONTEIN (PAR-000098). His subject was Karoo ecology: he found a pink nerine with a whitish throat fading to brown ON VREDENDAL (PAR-000006), and it turned out to grow nowhere else on earth, a single colony of about 400 plants near the Klein Waterval river, confirmed by the Kirstenbosch Amaryllidaceae authority Dr Desire Hayman and named NERINE MARINCOWITZII for him. He was an authority on buchu (thirteen species in the Swartberg, a Khoi word and a San medicine) and on kambro, Fockea edulis, which Leipoldt called "the white watery gold of the Karoo". He claimed to have crossed the Swartberg Pass every week for sixty years, driving it himself since 1946, and joined the group that fought to save its dry walling after the floods.
These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
