Afrikaans naming repeats hard, and the Cape Dutch naming pattern reuses a name on purpose, a child who died young has the name given again to a later sibling. These are different people. Never match on a name alone.

Navorsingsnotas

[SRC-073] Thirteenth child of the root couple, baptised 20 Aug 1839. A NAMESAKE TRAP: he is three years YOUNGER than his nephew Ockert Almero (PER-000005, b. 27 Nov 1836 at Middelwater), who is Frans's 2x-great-grandfather. Two men of the same name in the same district in the same decade. The tree carries him twice, as and - a duplicate to clean up. Unmarried as far as Pottas could establish.

29 Jul 2026 [SRC-077] DOUBT RAISED: the 1859 death notice lists THIRTEEN children of this couple and HE IS NOT AMONG THEM - not as living, not as "overleden". Pottas and the family-tree both place him here. Either he died before 1859 leaving no issue and was simply omitted, or he is not a child of this marriage at all. [TO VERIFY]

[31 Jul 2026 SRC-171] THE NAMESAKE TRAP HAS CAUGHT FAMILYSEARCH. Charles Frederick OosthuizenM's 1930 probate is attached on FamilySearch to OCKERT ALMERO b.1839 (GVZF-ZHH) - this row - when the death notice names the father as the husband of Aletta Catharina born Hitge, which is unambiguously PER-000005 (FS LDQC-R1B, b. 27 Nov 1836, d. 2 Jan 1922), his NEPHEW. The record belongs to the nephew, not to this man. See FIX-0003. This row's own note has warned about exactly this confusion since 29 July.

[5 Aug 2026] MERGED PER-000364 into this row. Re-run through merge_person.py after the 5 Aug tombstoning was written by hand and left 12 parentage rows and UNI-000170 hanging on the tombstone (audit finding domain2-02). DISAGREEMENTS, kept rather than resolved - the FamilySearch id settles these in one click: display_name: kept 'Ockert Almero OosthuizenL (b.1839)', PER-000364 said 'Ockert Almero OosthuizenL'; tree id: kept '', PER-000364 said ''; familysearch_id: kept 'GVZF-ZHH', PER-000364 said 'G6ZT-D65'. Retired ids kept for the trail: tree, FamilySearch G6ZT-D65 - a merged FamilySearch id still resolves, so it remains a usable door.

[5 Aug 2026] WHAT THE MERGE BROUGHT WITH IT, AND WHAT IT CONTRADICTS. PER-000364's side of this man carried a marriage (UNI-000170, Elizabeth Anna Janse van RensburgH, PER-001334, b. 29 Sep 1845) and TWELVE children, PER-001088 to PER-001099. Those rows now hang on this row, which is where they belong if the merge is right - but they disagree with two things already written here, and the disagreement is recorded rather than resolved. (1) Pottas has him 'unmarried as far as he could establish'; the tree has him married with twelve children. (2) A wife born in 1845 puts the marriage in the mid-1860s at the earliest, so he was alive well after 1859 - which SHARPENS the doubt already noted above, because SRC-077, the 1859 death notice, lists thirteen children and does not name him at all, living or dead. Either the death notice omits a living son, or the tree has attached this family to the wrong Ockert Almero. [TO VERIFY] - the test is the marriage register for the Janse van Rensburg marriage, which would name his parents. See LEAD-0033.

These are working notes, not finished prose: they carry the reasoning, the corrections and the things still marked to verify. They are kept here so the page itself can read as what is known.
