Qualification: PRESENT AT DEATH. 15. Residence: Calvinia. Registered 18 January 1904 by the Deputy Registrar, signature Steenkamp. Footnote (b), total number of children the deceased has had: NINE. THIS CONTRADICTS THE PLACE OF DEATH THIS MODEL HELD. The model had him dying on OUDE MUUR, on the compiled tree's word. The registered form gives Calvinia for his usual residence and for the place of death, and Calvinia Cemetery for the burial. Note that on these forms "Calvinia" is as often the DIVISION as the town, so this does not by itself prove he was off the farm; what it does prove is that the Oude Muur death rests on the tree alone and is no longer the better-supported reading. The date, 17 January 1904, is confirmed exactly. AGE 70 agrees with a birth on 23 February 1833: he died five weeks short of 71. The story sentence "seventy-one years on one farm" was wrong twice over and is corrected. NINE CHILDREN. This model holds one of them, PER-000762. THE INFORMANT WAS PRESENT AT THE DEATH and signs F. v.d. Merwe - on the balance of the evidence his son Frans Jacobus Wilhelmus, though the form gives no first names and this is not asserted as fact. The burial entry corroborates LEAD-0153: the grave Frans photographed in the Calvinia cemetery in August 2013 is where the registrar was told it would be.
