[5 Aug 2026, web search] THE ILLEGIBLE BIRTHPLACE WORD NOW HAS A SUPPORTED READING: 'old Lein[ingen]', that is ALT-LEININGEN in the Palatinate. Three independent things agree - the shape of the word on the notice, this model's own long-standing note on PER-000328 giving his birth as 'Palatinate (Germany)', and a published WikiTree profile which has him arriving at the Cape in 1808 from Alt-Leining, Germany. Recorded as a reading that is now supported rather than a guess; the transcription above is left as it was read. [TO VERIFY against the image at higher resolution]
