THE VERSO is where the nine morgen stop being a field and start being a TOWN. The printed deduction table - "THE FOLLOWING DEDUCTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE FROM THIS DIAGRAM", with columns for Survey Records, Diagram No., Subdivision, Area and Deed - is RULED BUT EMPTY. No portion was ever cut off Portion 1 and sold as a piece of land. Instead a single line runs across the whole table: "FOR SUBDIVISION OF PORTION K25 VIDE GENERAL PLAN K25", with the diagram column reading K25 and the date 30.1.1901. WHAT THAT MEANS, stated as the inference it is. A general plan is not a farm diagram; it is the drawing made when ground is laid out into ERVEN and streets. So on 30 January 1901 the nine morgen of arable - the one ploughable piece of Klaarstroom, the piece with the werf on it, the first piece ever cut out and sold - was surveyed into lots. The town of Klaarstroom stands on this farm (STO-0014), and on the evidence of this sheet it stands on THIS PORTION of it, laid out by General Plan K25. The chain is good but not closed: the sheet says "General Plan K25", it does not say "Klaarstroom village" or "erven", and this project has not yet seen K25 itself. Read it as a strong inference from the instrument and the ground, not as a finding. To close it, order General Plan K25 (30 January 1901) from the Surveyor-General. [TO VERIFY] THE DATE IS WORTH A SECOND LOOK EITHER WAY: ten years after the 1891 gold rush that brought strangers into this basin (S007), and in the middle of the Anglo-Boer War.
